The Nestlings

Our Nestlings group are our 2 - 4 year old children. We provide our children with plentiful opportunities to experience and explore their growing world. We encourage them to express their unique personalities by nurturing each individual child’s interests and stages of development. This is evident in our planning and child-led activities that we carry out daily.

We encourage our parents to contribute to our planning by sharing your child’s interests from home and achievements they have made or are working towards.

All of our learning is play based and a lot of it spontaneous in response to children’s reactions or interests. We do this by providing children with opportunities, the learning which takes place within these opportunities is unique to each child. Our knowledgeable practitioners then support and extend children’s ideas sensitively using reassurance and effective questioning to further develop your child’s knowledge and understanding.

In the year prior to school we also begin preparing our older children for their next journey into primary school. Confidence and security in their own independence is key in ensuring the transition from nursery to school is a positive one. We use many activities to promote confidence and self-awareness such as our ‘marvellous me’ box, our ‘star board’ and ‘circle time’. Encouraging independence in self-care, such as the fine motor skills required to fasten your own zip, is also something we refine in pre-school.

We further prepare children by introducing knowledge of numbers, shape and the introduction of phonics and letter information. We have many resources, such as our self-registration, that encourages name recognition leading to the writing of their name when they are ready. We are very lucky to have a full time Early Years Teacher ensuring your child is ready and raring to go when the time comes to go to ‘big school’
